The Benue State government has disclosed that the newly established Water and Bread factories by the Benue Investment and Property Company (BIPC) management have taken over 300 youths off the streets, reducing criminality in the state to the barest minimum.

The managing director of BIPC, Dr Raymond Asemakaha, disclosed this in Makurdi while fielding questions from journalists on the occasion of his birthday celebration. He explained that the company has employed over 211 workers in direct labour and 179 in indirect labour to work on its projects.

According to him, “I want to also announce to you that we have already procured the machines to start the production of our branded bread and water packs, leathers and nail production industries as part of measures to boost the economy of the state and as well take more of our youths off the streets.”

While applauding Governor Hyacinth Alia for his vision to put the state on the global map, Dr Asemakaha said the governor’s leadership style has given the company a direction to embark on projects and investments that have created employment opportunities for the teeming unemployed population, adding that, this will drastically reduce criminality.

He said BIPC has embarked on several projects in less than one year. The bakery where we produce bread for the people has become a major attraction for the low-income earners who are buying from us to resell. We have gotten a lot of compliments and testimonies of how they have been making a profit by taking care of their medical and family needs.

The business expert maintained that we will open another branch along Naka Road in a few days. In a few weeks from now, we will be producing our branded packs for our bread and water because, after our cost-benefit analysis, we discovered we are spending so much on the branded packs.

Dr Asemakaha further disclosed that the company has put in place the sum of N700 million in the construction of the Benue beer company.

He said BIPC has embarked on several projects and is poised to deliver all of them to make the state a hub of industries in the North Central. He added that renovation work on the Benfruits company has been completed, and production will hopefully commence in November this year.
