Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume who represents Borno South in the National Assembly, has alerted on individuals he terms “fifth columnists” who are actively undermining President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Ndume expressed concern on the soaring cost of fuel, food and essential services which have become increasingly burdensome for the average Nigerian, particularly the impoverished majority.
In a statement in Abuja yesterday, he criticised negative influences for attempting to turn public sentiment against President Tinubu by advocating harsh reforms and ineffective policies rather than addressing the inflation and exchange rate issues that are exacerbating Nigerians’ daily struggles.

The senator noted that those determined to tarnish the president’s reputation are relentless in their efforts to impose hardship on the populace through misguided reforms, ultimately leading to public discontent that could be attributed to Tinubu.

Ndume stated that many families are struggling to meet their basic needs due to rampant inflation driven by continuous hikes in the prices of essential goods and services.

“I genuinely believe that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has the best interest of Nigeria and its citizens at heart. I know this because of what he stands for. However, there are advisers surrounding him who do not prioritise the welfare of the people and are providing misleading counsel,” he said.

He implored the president to be wary of these detrimental influences that seek to create discord between his administration and the public, adding, “The hardship inflicted on Nigerians is becoming unbearable. I am currently in Borno, and I witness firsthand the suffering, hunger, frustration and anger among the people.

“In Borno State, countless families are unable to afford basic meals. The relentless price increases have created unimaginable difficulties. Farmers struggle to transport their goods due to exorbitant transportation costs which are passed on to consumers, further limiting access to food.”

He highlighted the costs associated with transportation, citing the exorbitant fare for road trips from Abuja to Maiduguri as a significant barrier for many.

“I am confident that President Tinubu genuinely wants to improve the lives of Nigerians. He must not allow a handful of misguided advisers to derail this mission. I urge him to take action before the situation escalates further. It is unwise to test the patience of the Nigerian people, and that is exactly what these bad advisers are doing,” he said.
