Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWDs) in Nasarawa State have lauded Hajiya Halimat Tejuosho, CEO of QAT Foundation, for sponsoring Mr Yahaya Lawan Dantatu by purchasing his councillor nomination form for the upcoming November 2024 local government elections.
The commendation, led by Comrade Idris Mohammed Sani, came during a visit to Abuja. Sani and his group praised Tejuosho for advancing PLWD representation in government, describing her gesture as a significant boost for their community.
Tejuosho clarified that her decision to support Dantatu stemmed from her belief in his qualifications, not merely his disability, emphasising that Nigerians should focus on ability in leadership.
“On behalf of the Persons with Disabilities in Keffi Local Government, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Halimat Adenike Tejuosho for your generous donation of the nomination form for Mr. Yahaya Lawan Dantatu, one of our own, as a candidate for the councillor position in our local government.
“Your support brings us closer to having a representative who will advocate for the rights and interests of PLWDs in Nasarawa State. Mr. Dantatu’s candidacy represents hope for all of us, and with your foundation’s backing, we are confident he will champion inclusivity and equal opportunities,”Sani said.
Sani also commended the QAT Foundation for its unwavering commitment to marginalised groups and highlighted the need for meaningful representation.
She cited historical examples of influential figures with disabilities, such as Franklin D.Roosevelt, the 32nd President of the United States, who led while using a wheelchair due to polio.
Tejuosho stressed the importance of prioritising competence and humanity over mediocrity in governance, urging Nigeria to adopt this approach at all levels.
She further encouraged PLWDs to rally behind President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at fostering nationwide change.
