Wife of Abia State governor, Pricilla Otti

The wife of Abia State governor, Pricillia Otti, has said the present administration in the state has prioritised the fight against gender-based violence in the state.

Mrs Otti stated this during the 2024 Girl-child Day with the theme, “Girl’s vision for the future,” in Umuahia, the state capital, expressing the hope that the fight will succeed.

She described the girl-child as unique because of the central roles she plays at home and in society, vowing to do everything within her power to protect her from harm.

She said to provide succour for victims of the violence, the administration had established a support structure to offer them medical care, legal representation, and emotional support.

The first lady encouraged the girl-child in the state not to hesitate in repotting anyone who attempts to take advantage of her or whenever she senses danger around her.

Mrs Otto also condemned the baby-factory business, child labour, early marriage or giving out girl-child a a housemaid, warning the perpetrators of severe consequences if caught.

In a remark, the state’s commissioner for Women Affairs, Maureen Aghaukwa, underscored the need for the girl-child to improve herself by focusing on her dreams with determination and hard work.
