Scale Up Adherence To Ethics, Technology, Pro-chancellor Charges Medical Graduates

The pro – chancellor and chairman, Governing Council University of Health Sciences, Illa Orangun, Osun State, Prof. Wale Sulaiman, has charged medical graduates to scale up adherence to professional ethics and technology.

He gave the charge at the 39th professional initiation admission ceremony of medical graduands of the University of Ilorin.

Sulaiman, who was the guest speaker at the event, delivered a lecture titled: “Current trends in healthcare innovations and their impact on future of medical practice” and emphasised the importance of innovations in global medical practice.

He said, “Innovations, collaboration and application of technology is key to successful career in medical practice in the millennium”, encouraging young doctors to embrace the spirit of giving back to their community.

Acknowledging that the “Japa” phenomenon may not be entirely bad, he warned that graduates could be required to return to their country at some point.

He reminded them on the need to adhere to “professionalism, value for patients and deploy digital technology data across all spectrum.”

Sulaiman, who is a neurosurgeon, admitted that medical education is heavily subsidised in Nigeria.

He donated N500,000 to Zainab Yakubu, who was the best graduating student, promising to assist in her career development .

In their remarks, the vice chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Egbewole(SAN) and provost, College of Health Sciences, Prof. Sulyman Alabi charged the graduands to make positive impacts and ensure continuous learning to guarantee professional development.
