The varsity governing council led by acting chairman Hon. Adewale Adeogun recently paid a courtesy call to Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy, to discuss issues of collaboration with the Nigerian Navy, funding challenges, and the need for improved infrastructure at NMU.

The Governing Council highlighted the importance of securing government support, including the swift passage of the university’s bill, and sought a partnership with the Navy to offer students industrial training opportunities at the Lagos Drydock, acquired for the university by NIMASA.

Senator Daniel reassured the council of the Senate’s commitment to the university, noting that the bill for NMU’s establishment had recently passed in the Senate and is awaiting presidential approval. He emphasized the Senate Committee’s support for NMU’s goals, pledging to help address the university’s funding and developmental needs.

Hon. Adeogun expressed gratitude to the Senate Committee, stressing that the partnership could unlock NMU’s full potential, fostering growth in Nigeria’s maritime sector and contributing to the local economy in Okerenkoko, Delta State.
