True crime film, “Woman of the HouR” is the new number one most watched film on Netflix.
Based off a real-life story that took place in 1978, ‘Woman of the Hour’ tells the story of a notorious serial killer, Rodney Alcala who targeted his next potential victim, actress Sheryl Bradshaw while she was on national television blind-dating show The Dating Game.
Rodney who hot on the show as Bachelor No 3 was later convicted of seven murders across two states and suspected of many more.
The movie also marks the directorial debut of Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect I, II, III) who plays Bradshaw, as she brings a refreshing shift to the crime genre.
In a review of the movie, Alix Blackburn of Tom’s Guide, said contrary to the practice of focusing on the serial killers, as most films about serial killers do, Kendrick shifted the attention on the killer’s victims – the result is an impressive projection of “the fears that women face and the lengths they go to for self-protection, which unfortunately, hadn’t changed since the 1970s. And that’s the true horror here.
“We are introduced to different women whom Rodney lured into secluded spots under the guise of a photoshoot, including young survivor, Amy (Autumn Best).”
Unsettling in all the right ways, ‘Woman of the Hour’ Blackburn gushed sheds light on how the ongoing mistreatment of women becomes normalized and the risks that come with that acceptance. It’s a gripping, eye opening story that you definitely shouldn’t overlook.”
