The Federal High Court sitting in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital, yesterday nullified the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ward, local government and state congresses held in the state recently.

A faction of the party conducted ward, local government, and state congresses a few weeks ago to elect new party leaders.

It would be recalled that some party stakeholders, led by the national vice chairman, South East, Chief Ali Odefa, conducted a congress on Nov. 2 and elected Mr Peter Nwele as the new party chairman in the state.

The faction of the party during the State Congress assured that all pending issues within the party have been resolved and will go all out to reconcile all aggrieved members of the party.

In suit no. FHC/ AI/CS/183/2024 between Nnenna Lynda Udeh and 12 others vs. PDP, the applicant prayed the court to set aside the congresses as unconstitutional.

Delivering judgement on the suit, Justice Hilary Oshomah ruled that the purported congresses were void, unconstitutional, and of no effect.

The court further restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which was the 2nd defendant in the suit, from recognising any of the officers purportedly elected from the voided and nullified congresses.
