Otti Sues For Civility At Military Check-points In Abia

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has sued for civility by military personnel manning check-points in the state in handling road users passing through their location.

Special adviser to the governor on Security Matters, MacDonald Ubah said this in a joint press briefing with the commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu on this week’s Executive Council meeting chaired by Otti.

He said the governor expressed displeasure that the road users are ordered to disembark from their means of transportation and to raise their hands above their heads while crossing checkpoints.

The retired navy commander also related that a new regulation is on the way to increase understanding between the road users and the military personnel at the checkpoints.

Ubah, who further said the army had made available a 3-digit line 193 to deepen the confidence of civilians on the military, assured the residents security of their lives and property.

“Take it as a given, we will be able to sleep with our two eyes closed. No inch of the state will be left under whatever guise to criminals. Nobody will hold the residents to ransom.”

On his part, the commissioner asserted that as a responsible government, the administration would continue to take the security of lives and property of the residents very seriously.

“As the Yuletide approaches, the government wishes to reassure the residents that it will stop at nothing to ensure that lives and property of the residents are protected,” he noted.

“The government will not yield any part of the state to criminals” he maintained and lauded the army for the recent launch of a security operation codenamed “Udo Ka.”

He explained that the operation is to ensure the peace and protection of lives and property of the residents during the Yuletide, New Year celebration, and even beyond.

“The security men are out there for their own good and all that is required from them is cooperation and readiness to avail the men with necessary information about security breaches in the state,” he added.
