CEO of MTN Nigeria, Karl Toriola, has been honoured with the Osun State Merit Award at a ceremony commemorating the second anniversary of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration.

The award, which celebrates excellence and contributions to state and national development, was presented on Toriola’s behalf by the chief strategy and innovation officer, MTN Nigeria, Babalola Oyeleye. The event, held in Osogbo, brought together distinguished personalities and leaders across various sectors.

Governor Adeleke underscored the significance of recognising Osun indigenes who have excelled in their fields. “This is a non-partisan initiative to honour those who make us proud and inspire others to contribute positively to our state and nation,” he said. He also announced plans to institutionalise the awards, promising a structured nomination process led by a panel of judges in the coming years.

Other honourees included the managing director of BOVAS and Company Limited, Victoria Samson; former INEC national commissioner, Prof. Lai Olurode  and late icons such as Prophet Samson Akande and Chief Oyin Adejobi. The event also recognised cultural figures like Ifa priest Chief Yemi Elebuibon and social media influencer Layi Wasabi.

Speaking on behalf of the awardees, former deputy speaker Lasun Yusuf expressed gratitude while urging the governor to address critical issues affecting the state, including challenges with herders.

The awards ceremony not only celebrated the achievements of Osun indigenes but also highlighted the state government’s commitment to fostering excellence and addressing pressing community concerns.
