Foundation Targets Malaria-free Nigeria By 2030

Amina Ejiofor Foundation has announced the launch of its transformative “Extinct Malaria” campaign aimed at eliminating malaria in children and pregnant women across Nigeria and Africa by 2030.

The initiative was inspired by the founder’s personal experience of her two-month-old son battling recurrent malaria.

Doctor Omolara Olagunju, a key speaker at the event, emphasised the rising resistance of malaria parasites to existing drugs due to improper medication use, further complicating control efforts.

The campaign promotes malaria prevention strategies such as the use of treated mosquito nets, repellents, insecticides and deploying the recently introduced malaria vaccine. Awareness programs will kick off in rural parts of the FCT, expanding to hospitals, health centers, and beyond. During these visits, the foundation plans to distribute malaria prevention materials to pregnant women and nursing mothers, organisers said.
