The Nigeria Association of Auctioneers has conducted a plaza auction in a move hailed by bidders for its transparency and fairness.

The event, which took place at Mararaba, Nasarawa State, attracted participants from various sectors, who commended the process as open and well-organised, reflecting the association’s commitment to accountability.

The auction, conducted in the presence of representatives from the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC), security personnel, journalists, and members of the public, was open to all prospective buyers.

Prior to the bidding, the plaza was inspected by the bidders. They were given a tour of the premises, including the generator, interior spaces, and complete housing facilities, to confirm the property’s readiness for use.

Speaking before the commencement of the auction, the President of the Nigeria Association of Auctioneers, Alhaji Aliyu Kiliya, assured participants that the process would be fair and transparent. He emphasized that the property was fully complete and ready for immediate use by the buyer.

“This process is open to all, but only serious bidders should participate. I assure you of transparency, guided by auctioneering rules and regulations as a professional body,” Kiliya said.

The chief auctioneer and managing director of Areogun Resources Nigeria Limited, Otunba Folayemi Ogunleye, encouraged bidders to approach the event with seriousness, noting that the plaza was overdue for sale.

He explained that the winning bidder would be required to pay 10% of the agreed amount immediately.

“We will allow the winner some time to make the full payment after the bidding. However, failure to do so will result in the forfeiture of the 10% deposit,” Otunba Ogunleye stated.

He also mentioned that other properties were available for auction and that the public would be informed accordingly.

Participants at the event, including representatives from ICPC, members of the media, and the bidders themselves, expressed satisfaction with the process.

They commended the organisers for conducting a transparent and professional auction, congratulating the eventual winner.
