A statement by the Chief Military Information Officer MNJTF Lt-Col Olaniyi Osoba said the attack began at dawn in the early hours of 18 December 2024, with the terrorists launching assaults from multiple directions at the Darak military base.

He, however, said troops swiftly engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle, killing six terrorists and forcing the others to flee with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.

He said five soldiers unfortunately sustained injuries during the encounter and are currently responding to medical treatment.

According to the statement, troops in a follow-up operation laid ambush for the wounded fleeing terrorists along their regrouping route in Mazogo, a village located between Zamba and Djibirilli.
