A non-governmental organisation, 1019 Initiative, has launched a healthcare outreach programme in Benue State to provide free medication for over 10,000 vulnerable persons.

The leader of the group, Tersoo Ukechir, in an interview, said the initiative was part of the group’s effort to reduce deaths and poverty in rural communities.

“1019 Initiative is designed to enhance access to quality healthcare, especially for marginalised populations, as a group we are seeking to align with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and garner support for his potential re-election bid in 2027.

“We aim to deliver free, high-quality healthcare services to the poorest of the poor across all 23 local government areas in Benue State and Nigeria. A healthy population is a productive population, and this initiative will help reduce poverty and improve the overall well-being of our communities,” he said.

Chief Ezekiel Kunkun, the head of Mbatsembev, Tsambe District, expressed gratitude for the initiative, highlighting its impact on the lives of residents, adding that the outreach had been widely welcomed by the community.
