Youths suspected to be Sara-Suka members have set ablaze a block of classrooms at Kandahar Primary School in Bauchi after an alleged clash with the security committee in the area.

LEADERSHIP Sunday gathered that youths set the school on fire after they had burnt the office structure of the security committee which is close to the affected block.

Spokesperson of Bauchi State Universal Education Board (SUBEB), Mohammed Abdullahi confirmed the incident to our correspondent yesterday.

“The thugs burnt the school along with the office of the operatives of security committee a day after the reported clash.

“The school was constructed to serve members of the community. It is their own but they have ended up burning a block down.

“It is unfortunate that this dastard behaviour comes in the midst of sustained efforts by the state government of building new schools and renovating existing school structures to provide a conducive teaching and learning environment,” he noted.

Abdullahi explained that thugs have continued to wreak havouc on schools through theft and other unwarranted criminal behaviours.

“In a similar incident last year, thugs in Bakaro burnt another school shortly after the government commenced total demolition and renovation of the school. They requested old roofing sheets removed from the old structure but their request was declined. This infuriated them to burn the school.

He said efforts were being made by relevant security operatives to fish out the suspects and bring them to book.
