Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has distributed food items to 300 vulnerable women in Nasarawa State. The gesture covered three local government areas of Akwanga, Kokona and Keffi.
The minister told journalists in Keffi after the distribution exercise in the affected LGAs of the state on Monday that the food items which include rice, pastas, seasoning, cooking oil and tomato paste among others were meant to support vulnerable families in the festive season.

Represented by the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Aishatu Rufai-Ibrahim, the minister said the gesture was part of the Renewed Hope Agenda on food security of the President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

According to her, the Tinubu-led administration was not unaware of the challenges being faced by the citizens even as she assured of regular interventions to ameliorate their challenges.

“This programme is aimed at supporting vulnerable women in the society in order to cushion the effects of the economic challenges. So, we are here to ensure that no one is left behind during this season when the year is drawing to a close.

“We are distributing food items because that is what most vulnerable women need during this season. We will continue to do everything within our powers to ensure that women are empowered in the country to make them self-reliant,” she explained.

The minister, who hails from Nasarawa State, appreciated Governor Abdullahi Sule for his continuous support since she was appointed into office.

On his part, the chairman of Keffi LGA, Idris Ahmed Damagani commended the president for reaching out to the vulnerable, noting that the gesture would help to improve their livelihoods.
He urged the beneficiaries not to sell the palliatives but to make good use of them in their respective homes instead of selling them.

Earlier, one of the beneficiaries in the Kokona LGA, Matina Emmanuel-Angwe, lamented how she and her family had been passing through financial challenges as a result of the ill health of her husband, a retired police officer who suddenly developed a stroke after retiring from the force.

She, therefore, thanked the minister for the food items given to her and other vulnerable people in the area, assuring that the items will be put into good use for the benefits of their families, neighbors and well-wishers.
