The chairman of Ndokwa East local government area, Delta State, Vincent Osilonya, has imposed a dusk to dawn curfew in Aboh town.

The curfew will take effect from 7:00 pm. to 6:00 am daily to prevent a further escalation of violence.

This may not be unconnected to a violent clash between rival factions that left one person dead and three others injured last weekend.

Osilonya imposed the curfew and called for calm, urging the factions to refrain from taking the law into their own hands while efforts are made to mediate the dispute.

The conflict, which stemmed from disagreements over the conferment of a chieftaincy title, escalated into the use of deadly weapons, resulting in the tragedy.

He explained that the violence began when the chieftaincy title recipient, accompanied by hunters as escorts, performed a traditional procession through the community.

Tensions rose upon encountering members of an opposing faction, leading to the outbreak of the violence.

However, a source in the community disclosed that those opposed to the conferment of title attempted to stop the procession, sparking a confrontation that devolved into chaos.

“In the process, shooting started; one person died, and three other persons sustained various degrees of injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment”, the source who craved anonymity said.

Meanwhile, the police have launched an investigation into the incident as the community mourns the loss of the dead victim and grapples with the aftermath of the violence.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Bright Edafe, who confirmed the incident, said the deceased succumbed to injuries sustained during the violence at the hospital where he was rushed to for medical attention.
