Lagos State Governor Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Sunday said the various reforms, economic policies and initiatives have changed the country’s global perception from negative to positive.

The governor stated this at the 2025 Lagos annual Thanksgiving Service with the theme, ” Harvest of Thanksgiving ‘ held at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.

Governor Sanwo-Olu recalled, ” In 2024, we faced tough but necessary decisions as a nation and a state. Under the leadership of His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, we tackled the long overdue economic reforms required to lay the foundation for the country of our dreams.

“We will not shy away from the fact that these reforms have produced, in the short term, challenging times for many of our people. However, we are confident that the immediate pain will quickly make way for lasting benefits.

“We are already seeing the emerging shoots of the positive outcomes of these reforms. The harvest that awaits us as Nigerians will be gratifying after our many sacrifices and perseverance.”

“It is a sure sign that our global perception as a country is shifting positively and that we can choose and determine how the world will see and regard us. ”

He remarked that public revenues are growing, giving governments at all levels the chance to do more for the people. He added that a new national minimum wage is now being paid, with Lagos going the extra mile to pay higher.

He said, “Across the country, we are seeing encouraging macroeconomic stability and waves of investments across various sectors, from oil and gas to mining, infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, and the digital economy.

The Nigerian stock market again delivered an outstanding performance in 2024, with the All-Share Index closing the year above the 100,000 mark.

“In Lagos State, we witnessed milestones such as the commissioning of the first phase of our Red Line and the commencement of work on the second phase of the Blue Line. We advanced the progress of landmark projects like our food and logistics park and the new children’s hospital, among the largest in Africa. “
