NASENI Trains 120 Kogi Youths In Electrical Installation, Gives Each ₦50,000
The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has trained 120 youths in Lokoja, Kogi State, in electrical installation and maintenance, providing each beneficiary with starter packs and ₦50,000 to support their transition into employment and entrepreneurship.
The training was conducted under the NASENI Skill Acquisition Training and Youth Empowerment Programme (SATYE) to equip young people with practical skills to meet the growing demand for electrical installation and maintenance services in Nigeria’s building and construction industry.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, represented by the Acting Coordinating Director, Finance and Accounts, Ibrahim Baba Dauda, said the programme was designed to turn practical skills into livelihoods, businesses and economic independence.
Halilu expressed appreciation to the Maigari of Lokoja, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo Kabir Maikarfi IV, his chiefs, religious leaders and the city’s political leadership for their support and partnership throughout the initiative.
He said the 120 young men and women received training in modern methods of electrical installation and maintenance, equipping them with competencies to take advantage of opportunities in the expanding construction sector.
“At NASENI, our vision of industrialisation goes beyond factories and machines. Industrial development must ultimately create opportunities for ordinary Nigerians,” he said.
He added that the SATYE programme was designed to take practical skills, technologies and economic opportunities directly to communities across the country.
According to him, the growing number of homes, offices, businesses, factories, farms, schools and public institutions across Nigeria has increased the demand for skilled electrical installation and maintenance personnel.
Halilu said the intervention aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to expand economic opportunities, strengthen human capital and build a more productive and inclusive economy.
He said the beneficiaries had received starter packs and ₦50,000 each to help them begin applying their skills and establish a pathway to self-reliance.
“The knowledge you have gained here is a valuable asset. As you receive the starter packs today, please view them as tools for transformation. Use them wisely, practise diligently, and remain committed to excellence. Your success will be the true measure of the impact of this programme,” he said.
In his keynote address, the Maigari of Lokoja, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo Kabir Maikarfi IV, commended NASENI for extending the skills acquisition programme to his domain and equipping young people with practical competencies to contribute to the city’s economic development.
He urged the beneficiaries to maximise the opportunity, noting that the training had provided them with a platform to improve their professional competence, adopt better working methods and deliver quality services.
