He served as the first Secretary General and later the second President of the Igbo Union, Atlanta, USA, and was the first President of Idemili United of Atlanta, Georgia. He was also a founding member of the Action Congress of Nigeria USA Chapter (ACN-USA).

Some of the former executives of APC-USA who worked alongside Professor Onukwuli include Professor Adesegun Labinjo, Chief Emeka Molokwu, Dr. Ismaila Maigyara, Honorable Khairat Animashaun-Ajiboye, Dr. Elizabeth Olagunju, Honorable Kunle Masha, Judge Dele Alade among many others.

The APC USA family is deeply saddened by Professor Onukwuli’s passing and extends its heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. His commitment to the party’s vision and values will be deeply missed. The entire Igbo community in Georgia and America has lost a rare gem, and the APC USA Chapter requests thoughts and prayers during this sorrowful time.
