Nigerians are set to experience a unique, star-studded musical concert featuring music legends, icons, and superstars such as Sir Shina Peters, Amos McRoy, Buchi, Black Rice (Holland-based), popmusic King, Alex O, Righteous Man, Yinka Davies, and others. These notable artistes have been confirmed to perform at the highly anticipated “Abitonia Tribute Concert 2025.”
The concert, already generating excitement across the country, will kick off with its Lagos leg today at Freedom Park, Broad Street, Lagos Island at 4pm.
Organised by “Amos McRoy and Friends,” the event is part of efforts to honour and immortalise Nigeria’s pioneer entertainment promoter and events manager, the late architect Aibangbee Harris Igiehon, popularly known as Aibtonia.
He was a Nigerian globally renowned and impactful entertainment, arts and culture promoter, showbiz impresario and entertainment manager, who passed away recently in America.
Reggae music legend and Majek Fashek producer, Amos McRoy, leader of the organizing body said that the tribute concert is also aimed at recognising, celebrating and paying due tribute to Aibtonia’s unmatched feats in the Nigerian music industry till date.
He assured that the concert which will also hold its second leg in Benin City after the Lagos edition, will showcase Nigeria’s rich, exclusive and vintage music genres from the big stars of the 70s, 80s to the present age. “ It will unleash globally super stars who had been touched by Aibtonia during his indelible entertainment exploits years back.
Abitonia made a groundbreaking entrance into the Nigerian entertainment industry in 1982 by introducing innovative, hi-tech live outdoor music equipment. He revolutionised the scene when he hosted iconic Jamaican superstars, including Marcia Griffiths (of Bob Marley’s band), Mukta Baruka, Grammy-winning Steel Pulse, calypso legend Mighty Sparrow, and others, during a world tour of Nigeria.
The event was held at the main bowl of the then Ogbe Stadium, now known as Samuel Ogbenudia Stadium.
