Suspected bandits killed two persons in Maibakko Village, Sabuwa Local Government Area of Katsina State as police repelled the attack, rescuing 13 kidnap victims.
Police said the attack occurred in the early hours of Thursday when heavily armed bandits stormed the village, shooting sporadically and abducting residents.
Upon receiving a distress call at around 1:43 a.m., operatives from the Sabuwa Divisional Police Headquarters swiftly responded, engaging the assailants in a fierce gun battle.
Police Public Relations Officer, Katsina State Command, DSP Abubakar Sadiq disclosed that the exchange of gunfire forced the attackers to flee, leading to the rescue of 13 abducted persons.
However, two civilians lost their lives during the assault, while another victim sustained injuries.
The rescued victims have since been reunited with their families, while security operatives intensify efforts to track down the fleeing bandits.
Katsina Police Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of residents, pledging to sustain aggressive security operations against criminal activities in the state.
The Command further assured residents that law enforcement agencies remain steadfast in their mission to bring perpetrators of such crimes to justice.
