Governor Yusuf Mourns Kano’s Refuse Agency Boss

The Kano state governor, Alhaji Abba Yusuf, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Alhaji Ahmadu Zago, the Managing Director of the Kano State Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB), who died at the age of 74.

Spokesperson to the governor, Sunusi Bature, said in a statement on Thursday that Zago, popularly known as Dan Zago, passed away in the early hours of Thursday at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital after a prolonged illness.

Bature quoted the governor as saying that Zago was a dedicated public servant, a master political strategist, and a business mogul who significantly influenced Kano’s political landscape over the last five decades.

“Alhaji Zago was a unique politician with massive grassroots support who served in various capacities, including as State Chairman of the defunct ANPP. His contributions to Kano politics and public service were immense, and his loss will be deeply felt,” he stated.

The late Dan Zago is survived by four wives, 37 children, and numerous grandchildren and has since been buried at the Kofar Mazugal Graveyard.

The Commander General of the Kano Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, led the funeral prayer at the Kano Emir’s Palace, which was attended by hundreds of mourners.
Those who attended the funeral included the state governor, Senator Engr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and the Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II.
