Senator Simon Lalong, leader of the 7th batch of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission for the 2024 pilgrimage, has called on Christian pilgrims to embody the spirit of goodwill and honourably represent Nigeria and Plateau State during their journey to the holy land.

The senator made this known as he oversaw the airlift of intending pilgrims to Israel and Jordan, emphasising the importance of prayer in fostering peace and unity.

In a statement signed by Celestine Toruka, the deputy director and head of Media and Public Relations for the Commission, he urged the pilgrims to remember the nation’s leaders in their prayers, particularly President Bola Tinubu, and to advocate for the less privileged.

“Many things happen when you pray for Nigeria, your state, and yourself. Do not spoil the name of Nigeria or Plateau State; strive to be good pilgrims,” Lalong said.

Lalong also underscored the need for prayers directed towards Christian leaders in Nigeria, emphasising the collective goal of achieving unity and seeking divine assistance to navigate life’s challenges.

He appealed for prayers for lasting peace in Israel and the Middle East, extending the call to the global stage.

Also, Ambassador Simon Dolly, the Federal Commissioner representing North Central on the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission Board, reiterated the Commission’s strict policy against absconding.

He encouraged the pilgrims to build a supportive community and to keep the nation’s leadership, including President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, in their prayers.

The executive secretary of the Plateau State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Rev. Wanson Bagu, also reminded the departing pilgrims that they would serve as ambassadors of Christ, their country, and their state.

He implored them to uphold a positive image and rejected the notion that abscondment could resolve any arising issues.
