The chairman of the Appeal and Reconciliation Committee of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State, Shuaibu Idris Miqati, has expressed concerns over the recent wave of defections from the party to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He warned that if necessary measures were not taken, history could repeat itself, referring to the mass exodus of PDP members to the APC in 2014.

In a statement released yesterday, Miqati acknowledged the dynamic nature of politics, noting that political shifts and challenges were inevitable.

However, he assured PDP supporters that the party would also witness defections in its favour soon.

“Be ready, be prepared, and watch out with care and calmness for the unfolding scenarios,” he said.

“If care is not taken, history would repeat itself. In 2014, a number of people left the PDP, but many of them have since returned. We live to see.”

Miqati admitted that the PDP could have performed better had internal party congresses been conducted under improved conditions and processes.

The chairman emphasised that grievances arising from such exercises were expected but could have been mitigated if the party had engaged with aggrieved members earlier.

While acknowledging that political affiliations often change due to disagreements, he stressed that differences and challenges were a natural aspect of any political movement.

He also cautioned that an absence of disagreements within a group could indicate hypocrisy rather than unity.

Despite describing the defections as a painful loss, Miqati maintained that such developments were part of the ever-changing nature of politics.
