Dangiwa, Tambuwal Assure Nigerians Of Decent, Affordable Houses

Arch. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, and Senator Aminu Tambuwal, Chairman of Senate Committee on Lands, Housing and Urban Development, restated the federal government and National Assembly’s commitment to providing affordable and decent housing for Nigerians, including those in the low-income bracket, on Wednesday.

The duo spoke at the 2025 Housing Sector retreat with the theme “Actualizing the Renewed Hope Agenda for Housing and Urban Development,” organised by the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development in Lagos.

Setting the ball rolling, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development Arch. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa said the ministry is determined to ensure that the Renewed Hope Era for Housing becomes the reference point for generations for massive and comprehensive housing and urban development.

He explained that the action plan President Bola Tinubu handed to them when they assumed duty included increasing the supply and availability of decent and affordable housing to Nigerians, implementing land reforms to improve land administration, thereby unlocking the capacity of the real estate sector to contribute to economic growth and grow the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Harping on his achievements in the ministry, he said, “On our part, within 19 months, we have 14 active construction sites for a total of 10,112 housing units. With the pace of work at these sites—many already at roofing levels—we are on course to complete all these units and more within a maximum three-year period.

“Regarding the Ministerial Deliverable of increasing the supply of at least 20,000 housing units annually, which is our immediate target, we can say that with 10,112 housing units under construction in 14 locations nationwide, we are making progress.”

In his address, Senator Tambuwal said, “As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, I reaffirm our commitment to supporting policies and legislative frameworks to drive efficiency in the sector.

“The Senate and, by extension, the entire National Assembly will continue to collaborate with the Ministry, its agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure that housing initiatives align with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the present administration and international best practices.

“A key part of achieving this agenda is funding priority projects to enable the Ministry to discharge its mandate effectively. This includes initiatives such as the Renewed Hope City and Estates Programme, the National Housing Programme, the construction and rehabilitation of Federal Secretariats, and the settlement of outstanding liabilities to local contractors, among others.”
