The Shefarmers Association has celebrated its first anniversary by calling for an overhaul of Nigeria’s land reform system to favour women farmers.

Grand Patron of Shefarmers, Aminu Saleh, AIG (Rtd),  addressed the event in Abuja and called for urgent land reforms to address issues that hinder women from overcoming challenges to farming in Nigeria.

He said the association was conceived in 2021 to provide support to women with necessary tools due to the many disadvantages they face.

Aminu Saleh called on the Shefarmers Association to address the challenges of raising credit facilities, inadequate skills, cultural and social barriers, especially discrimination and limited access to technology.

The chairperson of the association, Dr Maimuna Abdullahi Habib, who spoke on the theme “Women Overcoming Challenges of Entrepreneurship and Food Security in Nigeria”, said women farmers are trailblazers committed to redefining agriculture in Nigeria.

She said the Shefarmers Association is dedicated to empowering women who play an indispensable role in agriculture and, in most rural communities, work hard to sustain families.

The event’s chairman, special assistant to the president on agriculture and food sustainability, Hon. Abiodun Muftau Yinusa, said women, despite physical demands, continue to display courage and are leaders embracing agriculture, proving that farming is a noble enterprise.
