In a significant show of support for the Nigerian U-17 women’s football team, the Flamingoes, Hon. Kunle Soname, founder of Remo Stars Football Club, had pledged a generous sum of N2.5 million as they gear up for their crucial World Cup qualifier against South Africa.
The match is set to take place at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria, marking the first leg of their second-round qualification for this year’s FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The Flamingoes are currently training at the state-of-the-art facilities of Remo Stars, where they are fervently preparing for the upcoming fixture.
Hon. Soname expressed his enthusiasm and encouragement for the team after watching them played out a 1-1 draw with Beyond Limits Football Academy in a friendly match on Wednesday.
“I am very happy with the performance of the Flamingoes against Beyond Limits. What they’ve done is what my senior team could not do, and I believe with this performance, they’ll do well in South Africa,” said Soname. In recognition of their efforts, he announced an immediate reward of N500,000 for their performance in the friendly match.
Moreover, the philanthropist pledged N1 million for a victory in South Africa and an additional N1 million if they secure another win in the return leg scheduled for March 13 at Remo Stars Sports Stadium. “I believe in this team, and I want to encourage them to go to South Africa and make Nigeria proud,” Soname urged the players and coaching staff.
Hon. Soname underscored Nigeria’s position in women’s football, stating, “Nigeria is not only the best female playing nation in Africa but one of the best in the world.” His commitment and support are expected to boost the morale of the Flamingoes as they prepare to represent Nigeria on the global stage.
The pledge from Hon. Soname comes at a critical time for the Flamingoes as they seek to secure their spot in the World Cup. With the backing of passionate leaders like Soname, the team’s prospects look promising as they aim to bring home victory for their nation.
