The Command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, made this known in a statement issued to newsmen on Sunday in Abeokuta.

Odutola explained that on February 28, 2025, the Command became aware of a disturbing viral video depicting an adult male brutally kicking and maltreating a minor, an act that sparked public outrage and widespread concern.

She said the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, immediately ordered an investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the shocking incident.

Odutola said that following swift action by the Sango Ota Divisional Police Officer (DPO), a commercial motorcyclist was arrested and upon interrogation, confirmed that he was the biological father of the child in the video.

Odutola said that the command in collaboration with medical professionals ensured that the assaulted child went through a comprehensive medical examination.

She explained that the examination included a head scan and bone X-rays at a reputable hospital in Ikeja, Lagos, to assess any internal injuries sustained from the abuse.

“Furthermore, the suspect has been subjected to a clinical evaluation, and professional assessments have recommended therapeutic treatment and rehabilitation,” she said.

Odutola reiterated that the command remained committed to justice and child protection, adding that upon the conclusion of the investigation, the suspect would be charged to court for prosecution.

She said that the command acknowledged the public’s concern and emotional response to the video, and assured everyone that all necessary measures were being taken to ensure the safety and well-being of the child.

Odutola urged the public and social media users to remain calm and allow due process to take its course, as the command would continue to work tirelessly to protect the vulnerable and uphold justice in the society.

She reiterated the command zero-tolerance stance on child abuse, domestic violence and all forms of cruelty to minors. (NAN)
