US President Donald Trump has criticised Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s comments that the end of the war with Russia is “very, very far away”.
In a recent post to his social media platform Truth Social, US President Donald Trump accused the Ukrainian President of standing in the way of potential peace negotiations.
America will not put up with it for much longer,“ Trump wrote. This guy [Zelensky] doesn‘t want peace as long as he has America‘s backing”.
Following Friday‘s Oval Office meeting between Zelensky and Trump‘s team, several US president‘s political allies suggested they no longer see Zelensky as a viable US partner.
“Just hours after the Oval Office meeting, South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham said he did not know „if we can ever do business with Zelensky again”.
“He either needs to resign and send somebody over that we can do business with,“ Graham added. „Or he needs to change.”
US administration officials have, so far, provided little detail about what—if anything—Zelensky can do to redeem himself in the White House‘s eyes.
Zelenskyy said, “For peace to be real, we need real security guarantees” after he met European leaders at a summit in London.”.
But Russia reacted by saying “someone should make Zelenskyy want peace” after his fiery blow-up at the White House with Trump.
The British armed forces minister said France and the UK have not agreed on a partial truce plan for Ukraine despite French President Emmanuel Macron‘s statement that the two nations proposed it.
A minerals deal with the United States is “ready” to be signed, Zelenskyy says, despite his public bust-up with Trump.
Zelensky‘s trip to the UK over the weekend came after a heated exchange with Trump and JD Vance in the Oval Office on Friday.
Meanwhile, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer told Parliament that Trump‘s commitment to peace in Ukraine is sincere, adding that the US is vital to securing peace and Britain will lead in achieving it.
The PM has announced a four-point plan to work with Ukraine to end the war and defend the country from Russia.
