The executive chairman of the Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Board, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed, has commended the coordinating minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Muhammad Ali Pate, for creating initiatives aimed at reducing maternal and neonatal mortality in Nigeria.

Dr Mohammed gave the commendation during the closing ceremony of a five-day implementation design workshop for the Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative (MAMII) in selected 11 local government areas in Bauchi on Friday.

He emphasised the critical role of the initiative in ensuring safe childbirth for pregnant women and providing quality medical care for children under the age of five.

He said, “We in Bauchi State are fully committed to this programme. We have embraced it wholeheartedly and will ensure its successful implementation in the selected facilities across the 11 participating local government areas (LGAs).”

Dr Mohammed expressed concern over the exclusion of nine other LGAs from the programme, warning that they remain vulnerable and appealed for their inclusion to ensure comprehensive healthcare coverage across the state.

He further praised the Nigeria Healthcare Sector-Wide Approach (SWAp) project, noting its significant contribution to the success of MAMII under the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (NHSRII).

He reassured that the personnel recruited for the programme were fully prepared for field implementation and emphasised the government’s commitment, through the board, to providing the necessary support.

Dr Mohammed also reaffirmed that the taskforce established for the project’s implementation would receive full backing to ensure its efficiency and effectiveness.
