Many Feared Injured As Violence Erupts In Plateau Community

Many people were reportedly injured and houses and business centres burned following a disagreement between traditional worshippers and Muslim youth in Shimankar community of Shendam local government area of Plateau State.

LEADERSHIP’s investigation revealed that the violence started on Sunday night and continued until Monday morning.

An impeccable source, who did not want his name mentioned, confirmed the incident to our correspondent, saying the violence began when traditional worshippers were passing and a disagreement ensued between them and the some Muslim youth, leading to burning of houses.

Consequently, residents, including women and children, were seen fleeing the scene while business owners hurriedly closed their shops.

Effort to contact the Chief of Shimankar, Long Menkaat Manu, for his reaction on the incident in his domain could not yield any fruitful result as his mobile phone was switched off.

Also, as of the time of filing this report, spokesperson of the Plateau State Police Command, DSP Alabo Alfred, was yet to respond to inquiries about the incident.
