The Kano State Government has suspended the end-of-month environmental sanitation exercise for the month of March for the Sallah celebration.
Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change in the state, Dr. Dahiru Hashim who made this known, stated that the decision was to enable residents to concentrate on preparations for the festivities marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
Hashim explained that the suspension would also facilitate the influx of visitors who come to Kano from other states for the Sallah celebration.
According to him, the move reflects the government’s commitment to balancing its administrative responsibilities with the cultural and religious needs of the people.
“The decision was made to allow residents to focus on Sallah preparation. It is also to accommodate the influx of visitors who come to Kano during this festive period,” Hashim stated.
Despite the suspension of the monthly exercise, the Commissioner clarified that the sanitation exercise for Government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), motor parks, and marketplaces will proceed as scheduled on Friday March 28, 2025.
He reassured the public of the ministry’s dedication to maintaining a clean and healthy environment while respecting important cultural and religious observances.
The end-of-month environmental sanitation exercise is expected to resume in April 2025.
The ministry, however, encouraged residents to continue practicing good hygiene and sanitation habits throughout the suspension period and beyond.
