The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has called for fairness and due process in the handling of the case involving Aisha Sulaiman Achimugu, a socialite and recipient of the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR).

Their concerns follow reports of a recent visit by officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to Achimugu’s residence in Abuja shortly after she was declared wanted in connection with an ongoing investigation.

A viral video appeared to show EFCC personnel at the premises, sparking public interest.

During the visit, the youth group highlighted concerns over the treatment of Achimugu’s family members and emphasised the importance of upholding legal procedures.

They noted that Achimugu had previously received an invitation from the EFCC and was reportedly out of the country at the time.

The national president of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, referenced legal provisions that guide law enforcement procedures, calling for a balanced approach that respects individual rights while ensuring accountability.

“This development clearly smacks of a premeditated agenda to embarrass and discredit her personality. What else could justify the haste for an alleged crime to warrant being declared wanted just some days after she was invited by the commission?

“Mrs Achimugu is a global figure, not a politician and a national honours recipient, as well as a recipient of the US President’s award. This calibre of a person can never go under hiding.

“We demand that her rights be respected. Her contributions to national development should not be ignored. The EFCC should withdraw the wanted tag on her,” he stated.

The EFCC has yet to respond to these concerns, but the development has sparked discussions on best practices for handling high-profile investigations.

Observers continue to emphasise the importance of due process in law enforcement activities.
