The commissioner of police in Enugu State, Mammam Bitrus Giwa, has warned policemen in his command against extortion, stating that anybody caught in the act would be punished.

He gave the warning yesterday during a stakeholders meeting convened by his command to commemorate the maiden edition of the Police Day celebrations.

The commissioner threatened to send any policeman that extorts civilians to harsh areas where they would not see anybody to extort.
He promised that the command would continue to hold stakeholders’ meetings to get feedback from the people.
The commissioner urged anybody with useful information to always feel free to approach him, saying he has an open-door policy.

He commended the governor of Enugu State, Dr Peter Mbah, for his support of the police, pointing out that the governor has made huge investments to ensure the state’s security.

The Enugu State Police Command boss said he was amazed when he saw the Enugu Command and Control Centre and reiterated his commendation to the governor for his efforts to ensure Enugu State’s security.
