In a heartfelt letter to President Bola Tinubu, renowned Nigerian boxer Bash Ali has expressed his frustration over alleged corruption within the government that has stalled what could be a historic Guinness World Record Boxing Championship fight in Nigeria. This event aims to be the first of its kind on African soil and promises significant economic benefits for the country.

In the letter, Bash Ali, a World Boxing Champion, voiced his deep disappointment after nearly two years of discussions with the Tinubu-led government regarding the championship, which he claims has been hindered by extortion and corruption. Ali revealed that he made an advance payment of $12 million and has faced additional financial demands from government officials, which he alleges have hindered the event’s progress.

The championship is expected to attract participants from 132 countries and could generate substantial revenue through Pay-Per-View sales, sponsorships, and tourism. However, Ali’s aspirations have been met with bureaucratic challenges, prompting him to seek legal recourse. A court hearing is scheduled for April 7, 2025, to address the issues he believes stem from government corruption.

Ali highlighted that previous attempts to organize this event have encountered similar obstacles over the past 19 years. He noted that the Federal Government has established a Local Organizing Committee on multiple occasions, involving all branches of government, but claims that corruption has continually obstructed progress.

In his letter, Ali urged President Tinubu to take immediate action, calling for the re-inauguration of the Bash Ali Boxing Project Local Organizing Committee and the eradication of corrupt practices that have jeopardized the event. He emphasized his commitment to holding the fight in Nigeria, despite lucrative offers to host it abroad, showcasing his dedication to his country.

As Ali awaits a response, the boxing community and sports enthusiasts are watching closely, hoping the government will address these serious allegations and allow this landmark event to take place, potentially bringing glory and economic growth to Nigeria.
