It was gathered that the gas explosion which occurred at about 1610hrs was attributed to a gas leakage in a 25kg cylinder from a mini shop located on Amosu Street, Ijora Badia, in the Apapa Iganmu Local Council Development Area of the State.

Confirming the incident, the Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, disclosed that the situation has been curtailed and the victims had been taken to the hospital for treatment.

She said, “Gas leakage from mishandling of products attracted a nearby flame before resulting in the explosion. The resultant fire was extinguished, and the remains of the gas cylinders were evacuated as danger was completely averted and normalcy returned.

“15 persons, including adults and children, male and female, suffered varying degrees of burn injuries. A number of the victims have been administered first aid along with others who have been taken to the hospital. It is pertinent to state that none of the cases are life-threatening.”
