Former Senate President David Mark has strongly condemned the recent attacks on communities in Benue State, particularly in Otukpo and Ado local government areas, where suspected armed herdsmen reportedly killed no fewer than 15 people on Tuesday night.

In a statement issued to journalists yesterday in Abuja by his special adviser on Media, Paul Mumeh, Senator Mark described the killings in Otobi-Akpa, Emichi, and Utonkon as “unacceptable and intolerable,” urging security agencies to act swiftly to apprehend the perpetrators and restore peace.

“The situation in parts of Benue State today cannot be said to be ordinary or accidental. It seems to me that it is an organised and premeditated action. We can no longer stand to watch our people killed needlessly for no just cause,” he said.

He called on local communities to organise themselves into vigilante groups to protect their lives and property, emphasising that while peaceful coexistence is essential, it is crucial to distinguish between legitimate residents and invaders.

Senator Mark also urged the people to remain calm and cooperate with security operatives in the task of restoring peace and order in the troubled communities.
