Rainstorm Claims 1 Life, Destroys Properties In Kwara

One person was killed and properties destroyed in some parts of Kwara State, including Ilorin, the state capital as a result of a devastating rainstorm on Friday.

The rainstorm reportedly claimed the life of a resident at Ilesha – Baruba, in the northern axis of the state.

Speaker of Kwara State House of Assembly, Engr Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, in a statement on Saturday, confirmed the death of the victim to the natural disaster.

In Ilorin, the state capital, residential buildings were destroyed at the Oko- Olowo area, while the rainstorm also affected electrical installations at the Ayegbami area, off Sobi Specialist Hospital road, Okelele.

Speaker Danladi-Salihu, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Sheu Yusuf, sympathised with the victims of the rainstorm, assuring them of government’s intervention.

 

“I wish to extend our sincere condolences and deep sympathy to our people who are victims of rainstorms across the state, especially the one that happened on Friday which claimed a life in Ilesha-Baruba in Baruten local government area of the state. May God forgive the deceased and grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss,” the statement said.

Danladi-Salihu called on disaster management agencies, both at the state and the federal levels, to swing into action by providing succour to the victims of the disaster which has now left many homeless.
