Some concerned elders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara Central senatorial district, have appealed to members of the party to be committed to a mutual understanding reached in 2019 on zoning the governorship seat to Kwara North come 2027.

The APC elders, led by Alh Abdulahi Hassan said that the mutual understanding was reached between the leaders of Kwara Central and Kwara North.

“In the mutual understanding, we pledged to support Kwara North’s aspiration for the governorship in 2027”, Hassan said.

The APC elders, who expressed concern that the governorship seat has eluded Kwara North since 1999, noted that by the end of Governor AbdulRahman Abdulrazaq’s administration in 2027, Kwara Central would have occupied the office for 20 years.

“This is showed as follows: Mohammed Lawal (1999-2003), Bukola Saraki (2003-2011), and AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (2019-2027). Also Abdulfatah Ahmed from Kwara South had its turn for eight years (2011-2019). We believe it’s time for the pendulum to swing towards Kwara North”, they said.

“As stakeholders, we appeal to our fellow sons and daughters from Kwara Central to honour this agreement and lend their support to ensure that Kwara North realises its ambition. Together, we can uphold the spirit of this understanding and promote peaceful coexistence within our party, ” they added.

The people, who went down memory lane added that : “As Concerned Kwara Central Elders, led by the late Alhaji Musa Mayaki, engaged in negotiations to identify the most suitable candidate, particularly for the governorship position in 2019, a crucial issue was raised by Kwara North stakeholders.

“They pointed out that Kwara Central had held the governorship for 12 years, while Kwara South had held it for eight years. They said it was time to move the ticket to to Kwara North. This development added a new dimension to the negotiations and highlighted the importance of zoning and rotational politics in the state.

“Although the governorship ticket was finally conceded to Kwara Central, it’s worth noting that Kwara North was duly recognised and rewarded for their commitment and contributions. Following the victory, notable positions such as the Speaker and Secretary to the Government were allocated to Kwara North, along with a number of key appointments. This gesture not only demonstrated appreciation for their role in the success of the party but also underscored the commitment to ensure that Kwara North clinches the governorship ticket come 2027. Now, it’s about time for payback.”
