The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has kicked off a campaign to reconcile aggrieved members as it prepares for the forthcoming area council and general elections.

The chairman of the Unity and Reconciliation Committee (URC) for the FCT Chapter of APC, Senator Usman Jibril Wowo, announced the initiative yesterday during a visit to the FCT Minister of State, Mariya Mahmoud, where committee members sought her insights.

Wowo emphasised the importance of understanding the genuine feelings of party members, stating, “Our party has a duty to bring its people together and mobilize support for our victory and the prosperity of the FCT. This ideology of development is evident across the Territory.”

He further revealed plans for an upcoming tour of the area councils, stating, “We are soon going to embark on area council visitation next week. This will allow us to assess the situations firsthand and engage with stakeholders and party members at all levels.”

“Our party cannot afford to go to the polls with a divided house. Look at the level of development achieved in the Territory by APC; this infrastructural development is a testament to our efforts.

“We need to be proactive as a party. We cannot allow petty grievances to undermine the progress that the APC is committed to delivering,” he said.

He also indicated that the visit to the Minister was a step to inform her of the committee’s strategies, noting, “The meeting was fruitful and provided valuable information crucial for our task ahead.”

The committee chairman encouraged members to openly express their concerns, saying, “We know people are willing to work for the APC. We urge all party members to come forward and raise their issues respectfully, ensuring a constructive dialogue to benefit the party.”

“We are not sneaking into any area council. Our goal is to meet openly with our constituents, which is why we invite everyone to engage with the committee and share their concerns,” Wowo said.

In her response, the FCT Minister of State expressed her support for the committee’s initiative, stating that she was delighted to know the committee has developed its strategy and to enable her to commence area council visits.

Mahmoud praised the composition of the committee, especially as it includes experienced politicians who can galvanise support from the grassroots for the party.
