Seplat Energy PLC has distributed 12,307 prescription glasses, performed 726 eye surgeries, and provided free eye care to over 22,084 patients across 14 years.

Managing Director of Seplat East Onshore Ltd., Mrs Ibi-Ada Itotio, revealed this at the NNPC/Seplat JV “Eye Can See” initiative in Owerri yesterday.

Represented by Seplat’s Base Manager, Eastern Asset, Mr Emmanuel Otokhine, Itotio said the initiative began in 2012 to make a lasting impact on communities.

She noted that Seplat, in partnership with NNPC, remains committed to reducing preventable blindness and promoting early detection of eye conditions.

Itotio added that the programme aims to enhance quality of life for all beneficiaries through accessible and comprehensive eye care.

She highlighted that Seplat’s CSR aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, focusing on health, education, clean water, and economic empowerment.

“The ‘Eye Can See’ initiative reflects Seplat’s commitment to sustainable development and inclusive healthcare.

Chairman of Imo House of Assembly Committee on Oil and Gas, Mr Francis Osuoha, described the initiative as commendable and encouraged Seplat to continue.

A beneficiary, Mrs Veronica Okereke, 73, from Mbaitoli, thanked Seplat for her free surgery and prayed for divine blessings on the company’s efforts.

Another beneficiary, Mr Charles Njoku, who had cataract surgery, expressed gratitude to Seplat for their thoughtful intervention. (NAN)
