Former Legislators Forum, Abia State caucus, has passed a vote of confidence on the Senate president, Godswill Akpabio and other leaders of the 10th National Assembly (NASS).
The others include the speaker, and the deputy speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), Tajudeen Abbas, and Benjamin Kalu respectively, and the entire leadership of the NASS.
The caucus said this is in recognition of the synergy with the executive arm, particularly the several economic policies being pursued under the President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Agenda mantra towards ensuring delivery of democracy dividends.
This was contained in a communique issued by the forum after its inaugural meeting at Onyerubi Close, Umuahia, Abia State capital residence of the former member of the House for Arochukwu/Ohafia federal constituency, Uko Nkole.
The communique, read by Nkole, the national coordinator of the forum, indicated that the meeting was attended by Kalu, the convener, and the coordinator of the caucus, Uzo Azubuike among others.
According to the communique, sighted by LEADERSHIP in the capital, the forum is non-party-based convergence inclusive of former legislators from the national to states and local government levels.
“The objective is to put a sustainable structure in place to leverage on the wealth of experience in law making for the legislature to always make well-rounded laws incorporating the diverse views of Nigerians in a sectoral or segmented form.
“The meeting served the dual purpose to formally inaugurate the caucus and sure up mobilisation of our colleagues to our proposed maiden conference scheduled to hold in May in Enugu, capital of Enugu State.”
It stated that the meeting would be under the chairmanship of Niger State Governor, Umar Baggo, and co-chaired by former Senate president, Pius Anyim, as past leaders of the NASS along with others.
“The others include Yakubu Dogara, speaker, 8th HoR as guest speaker; and Femi Gbajabiamila, chief of staff to the president and speaker, 9th HoR as special guest of honour.
“While the rest are Emeka Ihedioha, deputy speaker, 7th HoR and immediate past governor of Imo State; and Enugu State governor and chief host, Peter Mbah among other dignitaries,” the communique added.
