The lawmaker representing Ideato federal constituency in Imo State, Hon Ikenga Ugochinyere Imo, has called on Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State to stop the criminal charges preferred against the national president of Ohanaeze Youth Council, Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka.

Ugochinyere, who doubles as the spokesperson for the  Nigeria Lawmakers Opposition Coalition, made the appeal last week during a press conference at his Akokwa country home, Ideato South Local Government Area of Imo State.

Ugochinyere appealed to Governor Francis Nwifuru and the Ebonyi State Police command to immediately withdraw and discontinue the criminal charges preferred against Igboayaka.

He said “I want to make a passionate appeal to the Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru and to the Ebonyi State Police command to please discontinue the suit brought against the Ohanaeze Youth Council President, Igboayaka Igboayaka immediately. Please I appeal that the suit be discontinued immediately”.

The Ohanaeze Youth Council President, Igboayaka had issued a press release wherein he called on Ebonyi security team to ward against an impending attack on the people of Obeagu, Nkalaha and Egedegede in Ebonyi State which happened days later.

Thereafter, Igboayaka was whisked away by men of the Ebonyi State Police command from Owerri, the Imo State capital on February 9, 2025 following a petition from the coordinator of Ishielu North Development Centre, Ebonyi State, Mr. Emmanuel Emeka Odanwu.

Odanwu had argued that since Igboayaka’s first prediction came to pass, the people of the Development Centre had become apprehensive and scared of the unknown considering the precision with which Igboayaka’s prediction came to pass.

Igboayaka is currently on bail having spent days at the Ebonyi State Custodial Centre.
