Two friends, Arigun David, 21, and Michael, 34, have lost their lives in a fracas with a Fulani herder at Agwan Doka area of Mararaba in Karu local government area of Nasarawa State.
The State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, told LEADERSHIP on Monday that the deceased were macheted to death by a Fulani herder who is currently on the run.
According to him, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area received a distressed call at about 1 p.m. on Sunday that cattle belonging to the herder were grazing in the area, and ate the flowers planted by Mr. David.
He said on sighting what happened, the deceased confronted the herder and an argument ensued between the duo.
“Consequently, the herder matched Mr. David, and he died on the spot,” he stated.
Explaining further, SP Nansel said a friend of Mr. David, whose name was given as Michael of phase four, in an attempt to intervene, was also macheted by the same herder.
He said Michael sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Mararaba Medical Centre for treatment, but was confirmed dead on arrival by a Doctor.
He noted that Michael’s corpse had been deposited at the same hospital for autopsy.
“The Commissioner of Police ordered a deployment of personnel to secure the area, even as he directed the deputy commissioner of police, in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, to commence a full investigation into the matter.
“He was also mandated to launch a manhunt for the perpetrator of the act to ensure his prosecution,” he added.
