UNICEF Commends CSOs For Supporting Polio Vaccine Compliance In Bauchi

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has applauded Civil Society Organisations (CSOs)  and community-based groups in Bauchi State for their pivotal roles in bolstering compliance with polio vaccination campaigns across the state.

Speaking to journalists shortly after monitoring the ongoing Polio Vaccine Campaign in northern Bauchi, a Health Specialist with UNICEF’s Bauchi Field Office,  Dr. David Audu, noted the collaborative efforts of CSOs in tackling vaccine hesitancy and ensuring widespread immunisation coverage in the region.

Dr Audu commended the critical role of CSOs in driving public health campaigns and solidifying Bauchi’s commitment to eradicating polio.

“There is still a sprinkling of hesitancy and non-compliance,” Dr. Audu noted, acknowledging that while Zaki Local Government Area (LGA) achieved remarkable compliance, reports from other LGAs indicate isolated cases of non-compliance.

“Directors of Primary Health Care in those LGAs have been mobilised to resolve these cases,” he added.

He explained that UNICEF has also made provisions for mop-up campaigns in hard-to-access settlements and to vaccinate children missed during the initial rounds, ensuring no child is left uncovered in the exercise.
