APC Adjourns Stakeholders Meeting As Ex-ALGON President Slumps In Lagos

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Lagos State, yesterday adjourned its stakeholders’ meeting as former national president of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon. Kolade Alabi, suddenly slumped during a meeting hosted by the party for aspirants to the position of council chairman.

The stakeholders’ meeting was held at the party’s secretariat in Ikeja. Eyewitnesses reported that Alabi, the chairman of Bariga Local Government Area (LGA) and Lagos State Chairman and a prominent figure in Lagos politics, was addressing party members when he suddenly slumped, sparking panic among attendees.

Quick intervention by on-site medical personnel and party members resuscitated him before being transported via ambulance to an undisclosed hospital for urgent care.

As of the time this report is filed, the cause of the incident remains unclear, and no official statement from the APC or Alabi’s office regarding his condition has been issued. Sources close to the situation confirmed that the chairman is “responsive and stable” following the episode.

APC stakeholders at the meeting described the incident as “shocking,” emphasising his active participation in discussions before his collapse. The gathering, intended to strategise ahead of upcoming elections, was adjourned abruptly following the emergency.

Health professionals have emphasised the incident as a reminder of the intense pressures faced by public officials, though no details about Alabi’s medical history or current treatment have been disclosed.

Addressing the stakeholders ahead of the APC primaries for the local government poll, the party leaders appealed to the aspirants to cooperate with the leadership to ensure a seamless exercise.

The party leaders clamoured for rancour-free primaries, noting that the party leadership would adopt a consensus arrangement in choosing the 57 council chairmanship candidates.

The APC electoral committee cleared 432 chairmanship aspirants out of the 470 who submitted their nomination forms last week. The committee disclosed that 38 aspirants were disqualified or voluntarily withdrew from the race ahead of the July 12 council poll in the state.
