The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has called on the public to collaborate with the police in the fight against crime and criminality in the country.

The PCRC made the call at a youth and women’s rally in Abuja yesterday, during the PCRC’s 41st anniversary celebration.

The rally and sensitisation, which kicked off at the PCRC secretariat beside Jabi Park, Abuja, saw the PCRC members move around Abuja, calling for the police’s support in information gathering and whistleblowing to tackle crime effectively.

National president of PCRC, Alhaji Ibrahim Mogaji Olaniyan, while speaking at the event, said that the war against crime should not be left in the hands of the police alone, adding that all hands must be on deck to fight for crime reduction.

He said the committee would continue to support the police because it was aware that the service alone could not fight crime in society.

He also revealed that the PCRC has passed a vote of confidence on the inspector-general of police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, as he has performed well as the police head since he assumed office.

Also speaking, Engr. Junard Victor, PCRC national youth coordinator, called for a good working relationship with the Nigeria Police Force and pledged total support for the IGP.

Also, PCRC’s head of the national women’s committee, Bar. Maimumat Umar Sheriff urged women to train their children well to reduce crimes in society.

She further called for the provision of information to the police to carry out their duties, noting that “we have been assisting the security agencies in our way and this is one of the ways we want to support the Nigeria Police by sensitising the public on the things to do.”
