More than 12,300 vulnerable persons have received free hernia and hydrocele surgeries through a healthcare initiative sponsored by a renowned philanthropist, Alhaji Dahiru Mangal.
This was revealed by a member of the Board of Trustees of the Mangal Foundation, Malam Husaini Kabir, during the flag-off of the foundation’s second-quarter outreach in Katsina.
Kabir noted that since its inception in 2013, the foundation has consistently provided free surgeries and medical treatments every quarter.
“Each quarter, between 500 and 600 patients benefit from these free hernia and hydrocele surgeries,” he said, adding that the programme reaches not only urban centres like Katsina town but also rural communities across the state and neighbouring regions.
He emphasised that the foundation’s goal is to ease the financial burden of healthcare on underprivileged individuals struggling to meet basic needs.
Kabir also called on other philanthropists and organisations to support similar healthcare initiatives, highlighting the need for collective efforts to address medical challenges in underserved areas.
Several beneficiaries expressed gratitude, noting they had lived with their conditions for several years due to the high cost of surgery.
They urged the government, private sector and well-meaning individuals to emulate the initiative.
In addition to the surgical programme, the Mangal Foundation also offers free eye treatments and surgeries for vulnerable patients across the state.
