Custodian Investment Plc is the Holding company for Custodian Life Assurance Limited and Custodian and Allied  Insurance Limited.

The trauma management facility, funded by Custodian Social Responsibility Foundation. is situated in the Federal Medical Centre, Epe (formerly Epe General Hospital) and was inaugurated and handed over the State government, ably led by governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Speaking at the unveiling of the facility in Epe, the group managing director/CEO, Custodian Investment Plc, Wole Oshin disclosed that, Custodian Social Responsibility Foundation essentially focus on three major areas, the areas of Health, Education and Community Service as it does continuously impact its host community area in Yaba and Lagos environs.

‘When we decided to move into the areas of health, one of the things that came to our minds was: how do we really impact the environment? We do motor insurance, which essentially replaces vehicles that are accidented, and then we thought about, what about preserving lives which is also associated with accidents? And that was how this whole idea started several years ago,” he pointed out.

He said the choice of Epe came up after the initial plan of citing it on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway failed, but that he did not regret the choice of Epe because of the ease of moving victims from the facility to hospitals.

Stating that, the groundbreaking of the facility was done in 2023 and two years later, fully completed, he applauded all those that have been involved one way or the other throughout this project.

“I want to thank you all for the cooperation that you have given to us. We are encouraged that our first quasi GPP experience has been good. It is encouraging for us to move on to the next level and find everything that we can partner with Lagos State. Lagos State is a good template, they’ve done extremely well and we really look forward to gaining more businesses and collaborating with Lagos State,” he assured.

During the unveiling of the project, the governor of the State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu said, the intervention set a new benchmark for the public-private partnership in health infrastructure development, stressing that the facility would make the difference in serving patients in life and death situations.

To him: “I am delighted to witness yet another milestone in our journey toward delivering quality, accessible, and responsive healthcare services across Lagos State. This administration is setting a new benchmark in fulfilling its promise of infrastructural and social development. The commissioning of the Accident and Emergency Centre in Epe is a bold step forward in expanding access to urgent and lifesaving medical services, especially in our riverine and rural communities.

“This is a demonstration of our unwavering commitment to building a healthier, safer Lagos for all. This intervention clearly manifests our vision for a progressive Lagos, where health is treated as a priority. With state-of-the-art equipment, well-structured treatment areas, and modern support facilities, this centre is designed to provide swift, life-saving care in emergency situations.”

Sanwo-Olu said, the ancillary facilities, such as triage units, fully equipped emergency wards, diagnostic units, lounges and waiting areas would significantly enhance the quality of care that would be provided in the centre. He applauded the Foundation’s dedication to its social responsibility, noting that the impacts of the project would be unquantifiable.

“The presence of a top-tier emergency centre will benefit not just Epe but also surrounding communities, as it will ensure quicker intervention in critical situations, reducing preventable deaths, and promoting public health security,” he said.

Special Adviser to the governor on Health, Dr. Kemi Ogunyemi, noted that the centre was a symbol of innovation, resilience and compassionate governance, pointing out that the facility was designed with patient-centered principles.

She said the centre comprised four distinct operational zones —Red, Yellow, Blue, and Green, with each strategically developed to ensure rapid assessment, treatment, and stabilisation of emergency cases within short periods.

“Beyond its architecture and layout, the centre reflects a deep commitment to sustainability and efficiency. From solar energy systems to green materials, from modern operating theatres to staff lounges and training rooms, every element has been carefully planned to serve both patients and healthcare providers with dignity, speed, and compassion,” Ogunyemi said.
